Career

I have been teaching and practicing dentistry for over thirty very gratifying years.  Upon my graduation from UCLA, I was invited to lecture in the practice management program for seventeen consecutive years and I have also taught at the University of Oklahoma School of Dentistry in practice management.  In addition to private practice, I have been privileged to lecture to thousands of dentists and their staffs as well as working as an expert witness and legal advisor in the private sector.

After twelve years of treating patients in my California offices and part-time teaching at UCLA, I retired from practice at age thirty-six to teach and consult in my field, specializing in marketing and clinical efficiency.  I lectured and consulted in over thirty states and dozens of cities, teaching dentists and their employees how to be more kind, considerate, thoughtful and effective as a clinical team, resulting in more profitable and successful practices.  I attended over 1,800 dental offices and worked with thousands of doctors during this ten-year period, training them to be better managers and doctors, creating dental offices that better served their patients.

In 2002, I returned to chair side practice in Nevada and ongoing consultation for various private clients.  While I continued to publish papers in various dental journals, I missed the classroom.  UNLV invited me to teach part-time and I jumped at the opportunity.  I teach the business curriculum in a two- semester classroom course in addition to working as a clinical instructor in the student dental clinic one-half day per week.  During this time, I served as the Editor of the Nevada Dental Association Journal, a peer-reviewed journal and returned to working with the legal profession as a witness and advisor.

My course prepared my students to operate a small business and to thrive in the competitive environment of the Universe outside of the school.  I also covered such diverse issues as ethics and accounting in order to expose them to subjects that are not otherwise found in the curriculum from the perspective of actual practice, not abstract, academic theory.

In my clinical work with the students, my goal was to prepare them to be superb clinicians as well as thoughtful, careful, and considerate doctors.  I worked closely with the students to show them on a one-on-one basis how to perform clinical procedures better and more easily, keeping the patient’s best interest in mind while doing excellent clinical dentistry.  My goal in the clinic was to coach my students to be the best, most competent and patient-centered doctors that they can be.

In December of 2017 I resigned my position at UNLV to devote my time to practicing dentistry full-time in a private practice setting.  I have moved my practice and my team to Image Dental, a progressive, state-of-the-art office where I’m able to provide the finest comprehensive and cosmetic dentistry available.  This change has allowed me to devote more time to my family and to my expert witness work.
